*6:30 PM – 7:30 PM ~ Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall.  
 

*SLSI started this opening event in 2020, and unfortunately, we were unable to gather in-person in 2021 in order to continue this event.  SLSI will try it again this year and gauge the interest of attendees in holding this event for future conferences.  Attendees are encouraged to attend the welcome reception to help kick of the annual conference; meet with colleagues and visit with vendors.

9:15AM         Working on the Iowa Real Time Network (IaRTN)
                      Dan Messerich, PLS, IaDOT

The IaRTN has been a widely used tools since 2009. The software and hardware were updated in 2019. The addition of GAL and BDS constellations in 2021 give the users more satellites to observe during their surveys. Spider Business Center (SBC) is the user’s access to the IaRTN and the tools it provides. SBC users can update their account details and post process data by accessing their account. This presentation will go over items on the IaRTN homepage and the tools in SBC. Common support and troubleshooting request will be discussed. This presentation is intended to give users a better understanding of the tools that are available to them from the IaRTN

Attend this presentation to learn about behaving ethically and professionally in a business context, the principles behind ethical decision making and putting ethics into practice as a licensed land surveyor.  One hour provided towards Iowa’s continuing education ethics requirement.

8:00AM Surveyor Jeopardy (6 Hours)
Dr. Tony Nettleman, III, PSM, Esq, Nettleman Land Consultants

 Based on the beloved classic game show, Surveyor’s Jeopardy is sure to entertain surveyors from Florida to California, and everywhere in between!  HOW WE PLAY

1. Room is split into two even groups.  Each “team” is given a buzzer.  Only one person at a time will be able to buzz in and answer. 2. Question is asked and players will buzz in to see who may answer first.  The person who buzzes in first will be able to answer. 3. If the question is answered correctly he/she will get keep the buzzer for a chance to answer the next question.  If an incorrect answer is given, the buzzer will then be passed on to the next person. 4. If you are not the first to buzz in, you will also pass your buzzer to the next person. 5.  After each question and answer, Dr. Nettleman will present 3-5 slides of explanation to the entire class. 5. Points will be kept for each team, and the team to win will receive a special prize! Five Categories with Five Questions Each (1) Surveying Business Practices (2) Legal Aspects of Surveying (3) Technology in Surveying (4) History of Surveying (5) Wildcard Category (Anything and Everything Survey Related)

 About Our Friday Keynote Speaker:  Dr. Tony Nettleman is a Land Surveying Engineer and Attorney that has been practicing for over 20 years.  He is the President and Owner of Nettleman Land Consultants.  Dr. Nettleman has held distinguished professorships at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, University of Florida, Florida Atlantic University, and Troy University.  He is currently the Director of the Nettleman Institute of Surveying Engineering (NISET) Tony currently teaches college courses, surveyor test prep, and continuing education courses both online and for national audiences. Tony also regularly serves as an expert witness in boundary, easement, title and riparian disputes.
