- Monitor proposed legislation that may be of interest to the land surveying profession, SLSI members and the land surveying firms.
- Keep members informed on issues that affect land surveying.
- Recommend to the SLSI Board a course of action for members to take with legislators, state agencies or the Iowa State Board of Engineering and Land Surveying Examiners.
- Propose legislative goals to the SLSI Board.
- SLSI pays a legislative monitoring fee to David Scott and Association and Legislative Resources (ALR) to keep SLSI informed on legislative issues.
- From time to time SLSI may choose to hire ALR for lobbying services. The legislative committee may be asked by the board to recommend whether or not SLSI increases its activities from monitoring to lobbying.
